1992 Calendar
|
In order to celebrate Belleville's designation as "The Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution," the Belleville Chamber of Commerce created a calendar in 1992. The calendar included a small sampling of photographs from the archives of the Belleville Public Library, the Belleville Historical Society and the personal collection of lifelong Belleville resident and historian Joseph Hatch. Chamber President Rita Troise included this statement on the calendar: Belleville has always been a special place along the Passaic River. First populated by Indians, then English and Dutch settlers, the town grew quickly and provided a home to a remarkable gathering of early inventors and industrialists. These risk-takers personified the American dream. They made Belleville the site of copper mining and experiments with steampower. Belleville became the ideal mix of commerce and residential areas that still characterize our town. In 1991, the New Jersey State Senate approved a resolution which designated Belleville as "The Birthplace of the Industrial Revolution." This action was preceded by the hard work of Howard Klausner, editor of the Belleville Times. The special designation had the strong backing of State Senators Carmen A. Orechio and Gabriel Ambrosio. Such a motto for Belleville should serve our town and its business environment well. ... Belleville welcomes business. Your Chamber of Commerce works all year, every year to make sure our town's business climate is strong and that every enterprise located here will prosper. Your Chamber of Commerce says, "It's better in Belleville."
